Welcome tor Preston and Chorley Fibromyalgia, Hypermobility and Chronic Pain Support Group.
The Preston and Chorley Fibromyalgia, Hypermobility and Chronic Pain Support group has been formed by sufferers of Fibromyalgia, Psoriatic Arthritis, Hypermobility and Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, as a place for people who suffer from ALL chronic pain conditions to meet and talk to other people who understand. We also welcome carers, family and friends of sufferers to our meetings. Some of our members find it valuable to bring a partner, carer or just a friend with them to a meeting. We are here to provide education, information, friendship, and support.
We have a growing library for all members to make use of, to help with benefit claims and appeals, health issues, Fibromyalgia, Hypermobility, other Chronic Pain conditions, exercise, diet, relaxation and meditation. Please ask for more information.
We are currently unable to offer our usual subsidised Hydrotherapy for members at the present time due to lack of attendance and funding. However we are applying for a number of charitable grants to fund future weekly sessions so please check back on here and our Facebook group for up to date details. We are in the process of applying for funding to also allow us to have a physiotherapist attend the future sessions in order to advise members on appropriate safe exercise.
We would love to be able to continue to go as a group of friends to the adult and women's only public sessions at Jubilee Pool Bolton Hydrotherapy Pool - so please get in touch with us on our Facebook group.
We have had the benefit of working with Nadi Shodhan Yoga Relaxation with a fully qualified Yoga Instructor. This is wonderful for helping people dealing with pain, anxiety, stress and depression. Once you have mastered this technique, you can practice this at home. This technique is built upon each time so you do not get bored with it, as you may do with just a CD. We will be trialling this at the end of meetings in the coming months so feel free to give us your ideas and feedback.
We have subsidised Holistic Therapy available at some of our sessions. Jenny, our therapist is also available privately at reduced rates for our members.
Please check out our Facebook group.
Please be aware that it is a closed group, so only members can post and see comments. We list all upcoming events and any updates or short notice changes, and have many useful things in the files section which may be of benefit to you.
Even if you do not have a diagnosis yet, we will still be able to support you and provide you with information, help and friendship, as we all understand Chronic Pain and most of us have multiple conditions. We also have a growing library and many information leaflets for other conditions so we should be able to provide you with relevant information and help you to find support.
Sometimes it can be difficult to talk to friends and family as they cannot always understand what it is really like to live with any chronic pain condition. You may feel like you don't want to put your problems onto their shoulders.
This is where support groups come in; we are all sufferers and we have all needed somewhere to turn to talk to people who understand our daily struggles. We all know what it is like especially when you are newly diagnosed and you don't really know much about the illness.
We are here to help you learn more about how to deal with the illness, and try to give you help and support and friendship and most importantly we have a laugh! In addition for many of us we have been learning to manage through our struggles over many years and find that something that helps significantly is getting together with the opportunity to talk freely, safely and in a confidential environment. You do not have to feel alone or not understood living in chronic pain, as we all enjoy sharing our experiences and positive suggestions to help each other.
We have been running for over 8 years now, with many diverse and different experiences.
We work with the Fibromyalgia Association UK, registered charity 1042582:
Please visit the above link for information about what they do in the UK for sufferers of Fibromyalgia.
As we are partnered with FMAUK, they provide us with the relevant insurance and also allow us to use their charity number. We are always open to ideas for fundraising.
Our relationship with the Fibromyalgia Association provides us with lots of brilliant information and gives our group the backing of a national charity. We also get the support of a Regional Co-ordinator and Assistant in our local area, to help with any problems or advice on local issues.
We look forward to meeting you soon.
